The First Sunday of Advent was marked with great joy at St Stephen Anglican Church, Tema, as 21 candidates—15 males and 6 females—received the Sacrament of Confirmation during a solemn service presided over by the Right Reverend George Kotei Neequaye.
Preaching on the theme of Advent, Bishop Neequaye reminded the congregation that the season calls Christians to prepare for the coming of Christ—both His birth at Christmas and His promised second coming. He emphasized that Advent is a time of watchfulness, repentance, and renewal, urging the newly confirmed to remain spiritually alert and committed to their faith.
He encouraged the confirmands to see their confirmation as the beginning of a deeper walk with God, strengthened by the Holy Spirit. “Advent invites us to examine our lives, renew our hope, and be ready for Christ’s coming at any moment,” the Bishop noted.
The service was filled with hymns of expectation and thanksgiving as family, friends, and parishioners gathered to celebrate with the candidates. The parish leadership commended the confirmands for their dedication and encouraged them to continue growing in faith and service.
